The school district's overall mission is to provide a comprehensive education for all grade levels in literature and writing, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, health, and physical education. Grades 6 through 12 can also include music, drama, foreign language, computer science, and technical programs such as robotics, metal fabrication, and electronics. With the average class size of approx. 27 students per teacher, the students are given more personalized instruction and receive more individual attention compared to "big city school districts" while still achieving a progressive pace in the classroom.
The Ashland School District's partnership with the Southern Oregon University, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, both located in the heart of Ashland, is also an especially important link to the quality of education being offered to the elementary through high school students. The SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY / 1-541-552-7672, is located on the boulevard in Ashland, and was founded in 1869. First known as the Ashland College and Normal School, it then became the Southern Oregon State College in 1926. In 1997, the Oregon State legislature granted the SOSC university status, and it is now called the SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY.
SOU provides enhanced education in liberal arts, select professional programs, and programs in research and services. Bachelor's degrees are offered in business, economics, and international studies, chemistry, nursing, and theatre art, psychology, biology, English, and history, as well as many other subjects. Master degrees are also given in a few specialized areas such as business management, art in teaching, psychology, environmental education, computer science, and social sciences. Non–specific master degrees can also be obtained at SOU.
The SOU student body population is approx. 5000 students. Class sizes are small and taught mainly by faculty. The student body is diverse and comprised of people from Oregon and across the nation, as well as from around the world including Mexico, Asia, and Europe.
The MEDFORD SCHOOL DISTRICT / 1-541-776-8600, serves three different communities in the Rogue Valley, Oregon, and the greater Jackson County area. These communities are Medford, Jacksonville, and Ruch. In 1997, the school district opened its fourteenth elementary school for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. There are also two middle schools and two high schools in the heart of the valley's 361 square mile Medford School District. Over 12,000 students participate in learning activities each school day. Academics, vocational, drama, music, technical job preparation, career opportunity, technology sciences, and physical education all play a significant role of a child's education in this school district. Students and staff frequently earn local, state, and national awards.
Parents and patrons throughout this school district have supported quality education financially, by school issue ballot, and through personal involvement. Over 2,000 volunteers assist teachers and students in the classroom, and three major issues have been approved in the past few years to help fund additional programs, sports, music and language programs, upgrade existing facilities, and add new facilities. Certified media specialists, development specialists, and speech clinicians as well as professional nursing staffs provide direct support to children and parents.

The PHOENIX-TALENT SCHOOL DISTRICT / 1-541-776-8600, is located in Southern Oregon between Ashland and Medford. Totaling six schools with 3 elementary schools, 1 middle school, I high school, and 1 charter school, there are approx. 2800 students within this school system. Staff consists of 250 devoted professionals with Jani Hale as the head principal.
Over 92% of the third grade children meet or exceed the Oregon State standards in reading. And in addition to this school district's enhancements through the Phoenix-Talent School District Education Foundation, Phoenix, and Talent, Oregon are two communities that have combined their public support into one excellent educational system.
The ROGUE COMMUNITY COLLEGE /1-541-770-5339, located in downtown Medford, is for students who need to increase basic academic skills to succeed in college, and/or to receive assistance through developmental studies programs. Assistance is also available to students for whom English is a second language, and for Adult High School Diploma or General Educational Development Certificate.
