Ashland is home to the internationally known Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
More than 300,000 people attend the Festival each year and the popularity continues to climb.
This Tony Award-winning Festival produces ten or more plays during an eight month season in three theaters: the outdoor Elizabethan Stage (opened in 1935 and newly renovated), the Angus Bowmer Theatre (1970), and the New Theatre (2002)
The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF), founded in 1935 by Angus Bowmer, has grown from two plays a year and three performances to an internationally-known theatre phenomena, featuring both Shakespearean and contemporary plays.
In addition to the Shakespeare Festival, Ashland has five other theater groups performing a wide variety of productions. Other arts and entertainment offerings include cabaret, symphony opera, folk and rock music, and summer long open air concerts featuring world renown artists at the Peter Britt Festival in nearby Jacksonville.
